One of my favorite breakfast items is Biscuits & Gravy. It’s simple enough that I want to whip it up for an easy weekend brunch or a special occasion breakfast!
For my gravy the ingredients needed are simple and easy to find. First you’ll need breakfast sausage, then some flour, milk, and salt & pepper! If you want your gravy to have a little kick feel free to try the hot or spicy sausages, but for this recipe I’ll use normal breakfast sausage.
You’ll first need to brown the sausage so that it’s cooked throughly. I like it to have that golden brown crisp before I move onto the next step.
Then drain most of the grease off your cooked sausage and slowly mix in flour. I usually add about a quarter of my flour in at a time and make sure it’s added well before adding more. Mixing it into the sausage helps to absorb the remaining grease and lock in the flavor while making the thickening process quicker and easier. Don’t miss this step!
Next pour in the milk and seasonings, slowly so it doesn’t splash. Then stir and cook until it thickens. It’ll be thick enough that you can spread a path through it as seen in the second image. It takes about 10 minutes to get to this stage at medium heat, maybe a little less. When it is deliciously thick your gravy is complete!
Pour over the top of some delicious biscuits and enjoy!
